It shows and confirms the seriousness of the rows of the Ministry of Industry in supporting and guarding investments in the construction of factories that will produce the main lithium batteray components from nickel as a based materials. The support and escort of the Ministry of Industry is seen by the presence of all levels of the Ministry of Industry, including: Secretary The Ministry of Industry, Haris Munandar and Inspector General of the Ministry of Industry, Setyo Wasisto.
PT. Factory QMB New Energy Materials are built on PT. IMIP in Fatufia Village, Bahodopi District, Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province - Indonesia. The investment in the construction of the factory early amounted to 700 Million USD, which is part of the overall investment is 4.3 M USD. The establishment of this factory proves the seriousness of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in the development of new renewable energy, so that the dependence on fossil energy will be slowly reduced. Especially in the development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia and in the world.
The amount of investment that invested to build Nickel Smelting is predicted can produce 50 thousand tons per year. In addition, Nickel Hydroxites and Cobalt Smelting will be also built with a production capacity of 4,000 tons per year. With this reality, it is hoped that in the future, Indonesia will become the leader of lithium batteries in the world.
In that occasion, Airlangga Hartarto also said that to support the establishment of PT. QMB New Energy Material fully, the Ministry of Industry will increase 3 (three) times the facilities and infrastructure related with the existing Industrial Polytechnic in the PT. IMIP. The existence of the Industrial Polytechnic is expected to be able to supply the workforce about 2,000 workers needed. Because this industry is the industry that laden of technology, so the workforce that needed is a workforce that truly masters the technology (high skill).
Foreign investors working with Indonesia in establishing PT. QMB New Energy Materials include: GEM (a company engaged in battery recycling), Tsingshing Group, CATL (the largest battery company in China), and Hanwa (Japan company). While investors from Indonesia are PT. Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP).
In this occasion, the Minister Coordinating of Maritime, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan appeared as Keynote while signing the inscription on the construction of the PT. QMB New Energy Material.
